What is the best material to exclude pigeons?
Thankfully, pigeons aren't as skilled at material destruction as are some nuisance animals, like rats and mice. This means any one-way exclusion funnels you use need to be sturdy, but they don't have to be made from thick metal to prevent chewing or tearing. That's not to say a determined bird won't try to get back inside or a roost, and a pigeon's beak can be something to reckon with for sure. If you're building your funnels yourself, you can use wire mesh. This is relatively inexpensive and is easy to shape, but you have to make sure you don't leave any edges for the pigeons to fly back and perch on. Whatever you use, a funnel should offer a wide enough area to secure the open part of your home or building, and a tapered end that lets the birds out comfortably but isn't large enough for them to fly back to and climb inside. Getting the measurements correct for this can be tricky; you'd be surprised how small of a space birds can squeeze through. It may be worth your time and money to purchase a commercial bird funnel or have a professional wildlife removal come and install the device.
